Corrections are the most useful thing you can send. A calculator that returns a wrong number is worse than one that does not exist.

Reporting a wrong number

If a figure here disagrees with your supplier, your building department or your own measurement, please say so. Email hello@nosecondtrip.com with:

  • the page, and the figure you think is wrong;
  • what you expected instead, and what you based that on;
  • the inputs you used, if it is a calculator — the share link from the page is ideal, since it carries the exact values.

Reports that name a source are acted on fastest, because a density or a code minimum can be checked against it directly. Confirmed errors are corrected and the page’s reviewed date is updated. Where an error affected a published figure, the change is noted on the page rather than made silently.

Regional and code differences

Not every disagreement is an error. Aggregate densities vary by region and grade, and building codes vary by jurisdiction and amendment — a stair rise that is legal in one state is not in another. Where a value has a meaningful range, the calculator publishes the range alongside the figure it used. If your local requirement differs from a code minimum quoted here, your local requirement wins; tell us anyway, so the page can say so.

Anything else

Suggestions for calculators worth building, sources worth citing and pages that were hard to use are all welcome at the same address. See the methodology page for how the existing numbers are put together, and about for who is behind them.
